Current Volunteer Opportunities

Real Answers and Smiles as the Front Desk Receptionist

Wednesdays, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
Community Action House North at the Macatawa Resource Center

Are you a caring individual looking to put your hard earned people skills to work helping others? The Front Desk Receptionist is the first face that our clients see, and the first voice they hear, when looking for help and answers. Training provided - work alongside our caring Stabilization Services team and other volunteers. Together, we end hunger, poverty, and help families prosper.

Can't make the whole time? We'd love to have you for the morning or the afternoon!

Bringing it Home as a Donation Van Driver

Weekday Mornings, 8:30 am - 11:30 am
Routes begin and end at the General Store

It takes a dedicated team to fill hungry bellies at the Community Kitchen and Food Pantry each day - and the van drivers are the "behind-the-scenes" people that make it happen! Be part of the amazing process of receiving over $10,000+ in monthly food donations from local businesses, including bread, fresh vegetables, prepared meals, and know that you're really, really making a difference in our community. Plus, we have new (to us) van with extra storage and a good reason to hit the road every morning!

Creative Transformations at the General Store

Monday - Friday, 10 am - 6 pm & Saturday, 10 am - 4 pm
At the General Store, of course!

Ask anyone who's shopped at the General Store, and they're likely to tell you that its the best resale store they've ever visited. The volunteers and staff are tight-knit, and work together to turn community donations into treasures - clothing, shoes, toys, books, and furniture. We treat all of our donors with gratitude, and love our customers. There's always a need for people to see the best in the donations as they come in, and to see what most people can't: potential. Come for a tour, be impressed by the stuff, but stay for the people! We can't wait to have you in the door, and become the fabric that supports all of Community Action House's life-changing programs.

Fighting Hunger in the Food Pantry

Weekdays, 8:30 am - noon, 1 pm - 4:30 pm. Especially on Wednesday Mornings!
Community Action House North at the Macatawa Resource Center

Every client visit to the CAH Food Pantry promises a couple things - chief among them a kind, friendly, and respectful experience in a time of need. Its not just food for the family pantry - its who we are too! Our Food Pantry Volunteers are experts in walking through the client-choice process, and really make the best of difficult situations. In the downtime, they keep the shelves looking great, and stocked full of all that great, nutritious food donated by the community.

Gardening at the Holland Community Garden

Schedule varies, but usually Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings. Visit HCG on Facebook.
Macatawa Resource Center - behind the main building

The Holland Community Garden(HCG)in Holland Michigan is a joint project between Community Action House, the Holland Area Master Gardeners and the Macatawa Resource Center. Not the typical community garden, produce goes to people in need, distributed through Community Action House. The HCG also provides a venue for education. We welcome anyone that is willing to help with this effort. This group site is to keep all the friends of the garden, past, present, and future informed of the efforts and activities surrounding the garden.

Contact Barry by email.
