Resale
Expansion Campaign

Scaling Resale. Growing Impact. Sustaining our Mission.

Over the past 50 years, Community Action House has become a trusted force for good in our community—not just through what we do, but how we do it. From the programs we deliver to the partnerships we build, we focus on solutions that are scalable, sustainable, and designed to use community resources wisely. That’s why social enterprise—like our Resale Store—has become a key part of how we fund and fuel our mission. It’s a model that delivers real value to our neighbors today, while building financial resilience for tomorrow.

Now, we’re ready to grow that impact by launching a second Resale Store—reaching new neighbors on the northside of Holland.

Our first Resale Store has proven that it can generate consistent, flexible funding that directly supports our work—while also providing practical resources for the people we serve. A second store allows us to scale that success. It’s a high-impact use of community assets: turning donated goods and volunteer engagement into reliable income, reducing our dependence on fluctuating grants and charitable contributions.

Together, we can lay an even stronger foundation for our shared work.

OUR VISION:

A community where all of our neighbors have what they need to thrive, and no one faces challenges alone.

OUR MISSION:

Provide area families and individuals with food, clothing, shelter and the opportunity to build necessary skills to achieve a stable and prosperous life.

Growing Our Impact

For more than five decades, Community Action House has built community-driven solutions for our neighbors' most pressing challenges. In recent years, that impact has accelerated — because need has grown rapidly.

Families are navigating a housing shortage, higher prices, and wages that often don’t keep up. In response, we’ve scaled our work to make sure that none of our neighbors have to face challenges alone.

Sustaining Our Impact

We’ve invested in strengthening the foundation that supports all of our work so we can continue to show up for our community today, and in the decades to come.

Our first Resale Store has already shown what’s possible: transforming donated goods and volunteer energy into steady income that directly fuels our mission. This campaign is about expanding a model that works, and multiplying its impact for the future.

How We Grow

Working with consultants from SMCo Thrift, we carefully evaluated potential sites for a second Resale Store. Geography was the key driver—our goal was to serve the heart of Holland’s northside, where our market is concentrated. After careful consideration, we determined Riley Square was the best fit. Purchased in winter 2025, it will soon be home to Resale North, as we continue investing in critical updates to sustain our longtime Resale South location.

Resale South: Updating After Years of Performance

After years of strong performance, our Southside Resale Store is ready for a refresh. Upgrades to the facilities will protect this community asset for the long term, while improvements to donation and shopping areas will create a more welcoming experience for neighbors who support our mission every day.

A One Time Investment

Expanding our resale network is a strategic investment in long-term community impact. This $5 million project includes the purchase of Riley Square, buildout of our Southside and Northside stores, and the staffing and support needed to ensure both locations are ready to support our mission for years to come.

Long Term Impact

These one-time investments position our resale network for long-term strength. When both stores are operating, they’ll generate reliable annual revenue — reducing dependence on fluctuating funding and builds financial resiliency.

Every campaign gift helps generate $435,860+ in additional annual income that will directly fuel our mission, year after year.

How We Get There

Of the $5 million required for this expansion, $3 million will come from philanthropic support. The remaining funding will be covered through a mix of commercial lending and missional debt, creating a balanced plan that balances both immediate feasibility and long-term sustainability.
